TO REACH A SENATOR

You may communicate with a legislator by phone, e-mail, letter, or personal visit.

By telephone: Call the General Assembly at 410-841-3000 from the Baltimore metropolitan area, 301-858-3000 from the Prince George's or Montgomery Counties, or Washington, D.C., or 1-800-492-7122 toll free. Calls during the session are usually received by the secretaries in the legislator's office. To register your opinion on a bill, leave your name, telephone number, bill number, subject matter, and position.

To e-mail: Refer to the List of Senators above and click on the desired e-mail address or go to the General Assembly's web site at http://mlis.state.md.us/mgaweb/mail32.aspx.

To write: Address your letter to: The Honorable (Name), James Senate Office Building or Miller Senate Office Building (denoted by "M"), 11 Bladen Street, Room Number (optional), Annapolis, MD 21401-1991. A personal letter has more impact than a copied or form letter. Write about one bill at a time. Identify the bill by number and subject matter. Briefly and clearly explain your position and why you hold it.

By personal visit: Senators are located in the James Senate Office Building, 84 College Ave., or Miller Senate Office Building (denoted by "M"), across from the State House. Refer to the List of Senators for their room numbers. It is usually necessary to make an appointment through their office staff, as their days are tightly scheduled with the floor session and committee hearings. You may be able to make a brief contact between meetings, but don't expect too much of their time without prior planning.
